FAQ030: What happens when you have a disc herniation?

disc herniation, low back pain, physiotherapy

A disc herniation is a relatively common low back injury. Disc herniations happen when there is pressure on the front of the disc between two vertebrae.

A disc herniation is more common in younger people because the thickness of your disc is greater when you are younger than when you are older. This is because of the effect of gravity over time. It takes the water content out of the disc making it thinner (and one of the reasons why we are shorter as we get older).

In this video, we are building on some of our low back pain content. We want to give you the information you need to know to help you handle your low back pain and become pain free. Here is the our latest video that talks about spinal stenosis.
